I'm back!

enjoyed my studio time in Nashville w/producer Kenny Royster at Direct Image Recording for the new CD to be released this spring, visiting friends at my favorite B&B and playing w/my 4 legged friends Jaxx, Bailey & Abbey, coffee time & pumpkin skinny chip muffins (yumm!) w/singer-songwriter Sarah Hart @ The Perch,  Ariel & Ray's new  CD "Those Two" - original material - catch them performing locally in Kingston Springs & on Reverbnation.com & check out their new video...love driving through the mountain ranges of TN & NC...
This week I'll be at Kelly's in Nags Head on Feb 14 Thursday 6:30-8:30pm.
Friday 7:30pm concert Feb 15 in Va Beach for the Volunteer's Of Chesapeake's fundraiser for the shelter.

a week in Nashville...

Kim Kalman, Vicki Hampton, Kim Fleming, Robert Bailey 

 A week in Nashville at Direct Image Recording Studio w/my award winning producer, engineer, vocal coach Kenny Royster - we finished the vocals for the new Christian CD (un-named at the current time).  Kenny produced my first CD, Moonlight, over 10 years ago and the rest of my CDs since then.  It is always a learning experience working w/Kenny and I am grateful for his experience, patience, wisdom - and sense of humor :) - thank you Brother Kenny!

           Also in the studio this week were my vocalists Vicki Hampton, Kim Fleming & Robert Bailey.   

We have worked together since my Close CD.  They were in-house Thursday adding music, love and life to the CD.  We had a great day and they sounded awesome - wait til you hear!

On Friday, new-to-my-team vocalist Tania Hancheroff added her warmth and energy to the project - beautiful Tania - thank you!

I have the weekend off, so I slept in, am eating real meals, enjoying the company of friends and will even watch the Super Bowl (we might get more snow!)

Next week I'll be back in the studio with Kenny mixing, watching, listening and tweaking.  The music is sounding great, beginning to take shape and I'm getting excited to have you enjoy the fruits of our labor!  I am grateful for the material, all involved lending their time and talent and the opportunity to share the gifts!

road trip: Nashville

It's almost 8am on Tuesday Jan 29 ...was at Direct Image recording studio yesterday w/producer Kenny Royster working on the new Christian CD.   Will be working on vocals for the rest of the week from 10am til 10pm or later daily (until Kenny's ears give out!).  Next week we will have the tedious job of mixing, matching, EQing, mastering before it goes to production and ultimately your ears!
The drive to Nashville Sunday was beautiful - through swamp, farm land, mountain sides covered in frozen water falls, rural towns, cities...we live in an amazing country...I'm staying just outside of Nashville and will have time next week to visit w/friends...sorta of a working vacation w/o the pool side drinks :)

OBX Wedding EXPO

It's that time again...this is the annual Outer Banks Wedding Expo Weekend.  Today from 10am-3pm I'll be at the Saltaire House in Duck, then 5pm mass at Holy Redeemer in Kitty Hawk and then at Argyles in Kitty Hawk from 7-9pm w/guest violinist Beth Argiro.   If you are thinking of tying the knot or already have a date planned, this is the event to come to...the vendor hall opens this morning from 11am -2pm and then tomorrow Sunday 10am-4pm with give-a-ways and over 200 vendors showing their best products available for your special date.   It's at the First Flight Middle & High schools in Kill Devil Hills - see OBWA.com for more info and my web site www.kimkalman.com for more details

back home....

home from the adventures of High Point Immaculate Heart of Mary Church ...great evening spent with a wonderful community celebrating mass w/Fr Joe and the choir lead by Mary ...good eats before and after the show (thank you Hospitality crew) with a nice turn out of folks for the concert...good energy! Thank you Meg Kemmery for the invitation to be a member of your faith community!
From there I drove to Nashville to start recording the new Christian CD with a hopeful release date of April 1.  Great to be with my producer Kenny Royster and all the new studio toys (Studio Toys R Us Nashville) and musicians: Dug Grieves - acoustic guitar, Dave Francis - bass, Wayne Killius - percussion, Jon Conley - electric guitar, Dennis Wage - keyboards and David Davidson - violin and viola.   It's sounding great already and we've just got the instrumental tracks!  Back in the studio Jan 28 - Feb 8!!

Can't think of a better way to start the new year than to be ON THE ROAD AGAIN!! Heading west to High Point NC Saturday Jan 12 for a 7pm concert at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church 4145 Johnson St...I'll also be adding some music to the 5:30pm mass at the church before the show.

After the show, I'll continue heading west to start a new Christian CD w/Kenny Royster at Direct Image Studio in Nashville, TN.  We'll spend 2 days tracking (instrumental tracks) and I'll come home in time for the Outer Banks Wedding Association annual EXPO on Jan 19 & 20...and will head back to Nashville Jan 27 to do the rest of the project (lead vocals, back-up vocals, mixing and mastering)...look for a release in the spring!
